
This course equips educators with evidence-based strategies to improve student reading outcomes through the science of reading framework, specifically aligned with South Carolina's indicator-based assessment system. Participants will explore the foundational elements of reading instruction, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension, while learning to use data-driven approaches to identify student needs and track progress.
The course emphasizes practical application of research-backed methodologies within South Carolina's educational standards and assessment indicators. Educators will develop skills in diagnostic assessment, differentiated instruction planning, and intervention strategies that directly support measurable improvements in reading achievement. Through hands-on activities and case studies, participants will learn to create targeted instructional plans that address individual student needs while maintaining alignment with state indicators and benchmarks.

This course will provide an overview of significant disproportionality and how it is measured. The purpose of this course is to help districts that have been identified as having significant disproportionality. The course provides them with strategies that target the root causes of significant disproportionality and guides them through the remediation process.
